Who are the Houthis?

1. Ansar-ullah, also known as 'The Houthis', is a political-military faction. They claim to be Zaydi (a branch of the Shia), but are deeply involved with Iran and are a key member of the 'Axis of Resistance'.

2. This organisation was founded in the 1980s to fight corruption and foreign influence.

3. This group began launching attacks against Yemen's government in 2004 and against Saudi Arabia in 2009.

4. After the instability caused by the Arab Spring, the Houthis took control of Northern Yemen. They seized the presidential palace, causing the president to flee in 2015.

History & Formation

Important Note: The Zaydi Imamate was toppled in 1962 in Yemen

1. In the 1980s, Badr-ud-Deen Houthi claimed absolute authority based on his Sayyed lineage.

2. He joined the Union of the Believing Youth, formed by Zaydi scholars focused on the Iranian Revolution.

3. He and his son Husayn took full control of the organisation and radicalised it in 2000.

The Houthis & Iran

1. Iran began assisting the Houthis in 2004 with intelligence, weapons, logistics, funding, diplomatic backing, training, and fuel. Iran also provided advisors and trainers from the IRGC and Hizbullah.

2. The Zaydi ideology has faded away, and the Houthis show all tendencies and inclinations like those of the Twelvers, and according to some accounts, worse than the Twelvers.

3. The Houthis are influenced by the form of governance established by Ayatollah Khomeini in Iran after the Shia Revolution of 1979.

Saudi Arabia

1. Saudi Arabia spearheaded an effort to remove the Houthis from power, supported by other Arab states.

2. In 2015, there was intensive bombardment of Yemen.

3. By 2021, the civil war reached a stalemate.

4. Saudi Arabia tried very hard to spread Wahhabi teachings in Yemen, leading to a clash between the Wahhabi and Zaydi clerics.

The Underdog?

1. The Houthis like to give themselves the Underdog and oppressed status.

2. The reality is that they are radicals nonetheless, murder civilians, and have brought about more misery upon the population of Yemen than the previous corrupt president.

3. The fact that they are fighting against Saudi Arabia does not make them any better. Both sides are causing tremendous damage to Islam, not paying attention to the issue of whether they are being played or not. In fact, the Shia have caused untold misery upon the Ummah, whether a person is from Saudi Arabia or not.

4. The local population of Yemen live under terrible conditions under Houthi control.

 Houthi Tactics

1. Kidnapping and Hijacking

2. Extortion

3. Missile and Drone Attacks

4. Creating civil war

Israel?

1. The Houthis claim to hate Israel and the USA.

2. However, they are playing a multi-faceted war, not targeting Israel, but taking their calls and slogans from the Iranian Shia regime.

Confusion will only increase as we go closer to Qiyamah. This article lays out only the facts about who the Houthis are. May Allah Ta'ala accept us as guardians of Islam and allow us to see truth as truth and falsehood as falsehood. Ameen
