Death of a Person that was Insolent towards Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah radiyallahu 'anhu
Hafiz ibn Kathir rahimahullah has written that a person saw Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam in a dream.
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna 'Umar, Sayyiduna 'Uthman, Sayyiduna 'Ali, and Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah radiyallahu 'anhum - all five - were sitting by him. A person had come. His name was Rashid al-Kindi. Sayyiduna 'Umar radiyallahu 'anhu saw him and said, "O Rasul of Allah, this person speaks ill of us." Hearing this, Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam scolded the man very severely. He said, "Sire, I do not say anything to him, but I speak disparagingly about Mu'awiyah."
Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam said, "Destruction be for you. Is he not my Sahabi?" Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam said this thrice. Then Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam took an iron rod, handed it over to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah radiyallahu 'anhu and said, "Strike him hard." He struck the man, and I woke up in a shock.
In the morning, I heard that the man had died suddenly the previous night.
