The Meaning of 'Izzat & Dhillat

Sultan-ul-Auliya' Mawlana Ahmad 'Ali Lahori rahimahullah says, "Izzat is not a show (of beauty, wealth, and glory), nor does a person acquire 'izzat through wealth. 'Izzat means to have honor and prestige in the heart of a person. Dhillat, i.e., disgrace and ignominy, means to be low and disgraced in the heart of a person, no matter how much apparent beauty and splendor one might possess. For example, Fir'awn was destroyed despite all his possessions and wealth."
