Gifting at Christmas: Reply to Dudhwala: The Interfaith Fanatic

The well-known interfaith advocate: Dudhwala, aka Haleebi, has made the following ridiculous statement on the mimbar:

Reply: Contrary to his claims, Christmas is one of the most widely celebrated non-Muslim religious holidays in the world. Even if some people mark Christmas as just a secular festive season without believing in false Christian beliefs, Christmas still represents and still remains a symbol of Christianity and false Christian beliefs.

Hence, it is completely impermissible for Muslims to participate in Christmas in any way, including by greeting people for Christmas or giving gifts for Christmas.

Muslims should be encouraged to be courteous to their own non-hostile non-Muslim neighbours all year round, including by giving them gifts. But this must be within the boundaries of Islam. It cannot be by bending the principles and rules of Islam.

To improve the situation of Muslims in the UK or elsewhere, what is needed is to gain the assistance of Allah, Who alone controls the world and Who alone can change people's hearts and minds. By breaking His commands, we only distance ourselves from Allah, and this will worsen our situation, not make it better.

Allah says in the Qur'an: 'whatever misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned; and yet He pardons much.' [42:30]

'If you are patient and guard yourselves (from trespassing Allah's boundaries), their plot will not harm you at all. Surely Allah encompasses what they do.' [3:120]

'If Allah helps you, there is no one to overcome you, but if He forsakes you, who is there who will help you after Him? In Allah alone let the believers put their trust.' [3:160]
