Food for Thought: Today's Times - Shaykh-ul-Hadith Mawlana Muhammad Zakariyya rahimahullah
There was a person that came to Shaykh-ul-Hadith Mawlana Muhammad Zakariyya rahimahullah. He pledged bay'ah at the hands of Shaykh-ul-Hadith and remained in the khanqah for his training and nurturing. After about 6 or 7 months, Shaykh-ul-Hadith rahimahullah saw that this person had developed good ability, so he granted him khilafat and said, "The trust that I have handed over to you, go and distribute it amongst the people. Teach the people the name of Allah. Make effort in your locality." This person went and returned a year later to Saharanpur. He came to Shaykh-ul-Hadith rahimahullah. After meeting, they engaged in conversation. Shaykh-ul-Hadith rahimahullah asked him, "The trust that you have taken from here and departed, did you distribute it amongst the people? Did you guide the people? Did anyone pledge bay'ah at your hands?" He replied, "No one came to me for bay'ah, so I remained silent." This reply was in its place, but upon hearing this, tears welled up in the eyes of Shaykh-ul-Hadith rahimahullah. He said, "Beloved, this is not the era of waiting. Do not sit waiting and thinking that people will come to you, then you will teach them the name of Allah. This is the time in which, 'you have to catch the chins of people and convey the Deen to them.' This was said by Shaykh-ul-Hadith more than 50 years ago.
We are in such a time that if Shaykh-ul-Hadith rahimahullah was living, then he would not have said, that this is a time in which 'you have to catch the chins of people and convey the Deen to them', but he would have said that 'it is the time in which to catch the legs of people and convey the Deen to them.' - Irtidadi Fitney pp.14-15
