What is Deobandiyyat?


On one occasion, Faqih-ul-Ummat Mufti Mahmud Hasan Gangohi rahimahullah said, "In France, someone asked me, "Who is a Deobandi?" 

I said, "There are a few things necessary to be a Deobandi. 
1. The heat of the love of Allah must be burning strong in his bosom
2. He must stay away from all innovation and have firm reliance upon pure Tauhid
3. The love of Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam must be overpowering within him, more than the love for the rest of the creation
4. Every part of his life must be filled with following the Sunnah
5. His heart must be fully enthusiastic to spread the knowledge of Deen."
