Specialties & Outstanding Features of Sayyiduna 'Uthman bin 'Affan radiyallahu 'anhu
The most specialties and outstanding features or qualities were in the Ambiya' 'alayhim as-salam. After them comes the Sahabah radiyallahu 'anhum, and the Ahl-ul-Bayt radiyallahu 'anhum.
Allah Ta'ala blessed the third Khalifah, Sayyiduna 'Uthman radiyallahu 'anhu Dhun-Nurayn with many specialties. Some of them are listed below:
1. He did not drink, not a sip, throughout his life. [Ibn 'Asakir]
2. He did not engage in idol-worship, not at any point in his life. [Ibn 'Asakir]
3. He did not commit adultery in his life. [Ibn 'Asakir]
4. Throughout his life, he did not have evil desires. [Ruhama' u Baynahum]
5. He did not sing, i.e., engage in music, in his life. [Ibn 'Asakir]
6. He did not steal throughout his life. [Ibn 'Asakir]
7. He was the fourth person to embrace Islam. [Ibn 'Asakir]
8. Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam wed his daughter, Sayyidah Ruqayyah radiyallahu 'anhu to him.
9. When Sayyidah Ruqayyah radiyallahu 'anha passed away, Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam wed his other daughter, Sayyidah Umm Kulthum radiyallahu 'anha, to him. [Ruhama' u Baynahum]
10. Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam said about him, "If I had forty daughters, I would have wed them off to 'Uthman, one after the other." [Ruhama' u Baynahum]
11. He got the title 'Dhun Nurayn', i.e., the possessor of two lights.
12. After Sayyiduna Lut 'alayhi as-salam and Sayyiduna Ibrahim 'alayhi as-salam, he was the first person who migrated with his wife.
13. He was the first person to migrate to Abyssinia. [Ruhama' u Baynahum]
14. He migrated to Madinah Munawwarah also. [Ibid]
15. His mother was the paternal cousin of Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam.
16. When water was needed in Madinah Munawwarah, he bought the well of Bayruha for 8000 dirhams and made it waqf. [Tarikh Islam]
17. He used to free a slave every Jumu'ah. If there was no slave available, he would make up for it. [Ibn 'Asakir]
18. For the Battle of Tabuk, he gave 300 camels with provisions. Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam said upon this, "Nothing will harm 'Uthman after this day, no matter what he does." [Tirmidhi]
19. He is the third amongst the 'Asharah-Mubash-sharah. [Tarikh-ul-Khulafa']
20. Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam said that 'Uthman radiyallahu 'anhu is his special companion in this world and the hereafter. [Musnad Ahmad, Tirmidhi]
21. It was because of rumors of him that the pledge of Ridwan took place.
22. Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam used his own blessed hand to represent the hand of Sayyiduna 'Uthman radiyallahu 'anhu in the pledge of Ridwan.
23. After he pledged to Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, he never touched his private parts using his right hand.
24. He would complete the recitation of the Noble Qur'an in a single rak'at. [Ruhama' u Baynahum]
25. The angels would be shy in front of him.
26. He was the person who began perfuming the Masjid on the Day of Jumu'ah.
27. Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam gave him glad tidings of martyrdom.
28. He was amongst the Sabiqun, i.e., forerunners, in Islam.
29. He instructed that the Adhan be called out before the Khutbah on the Day of Jumu'ah.
